Camp Hope

On Dec. 12, the South Carolina Junior Chamber will host its Night for Hope Gala. All proceeds will go to Camp Hope, a camp for intellectually challenged adults and children age 8 and older. Camp Hope’s purposes are to give campers helpful experiences in an outdoor environment, develop the ability to work and play as a group, and provide new experiences unique to a camp setting. Campers enjoy fun, challenging and educational group activities that include swimming, canoeing, fishing, drama, archery, crafts, pontoon boat rides, nature activities and overnight campouts, and they develop independence through daily camp.

All attendees have a cognitive disability and spend either one or two weeks at Camp Hope in the summer. The SC Junior Chamber of Commerce has provided financial support for every camper attending Camp Hope since 1969, and each year the South Carolina Jaycees strive to raise more than $55,000 to support Camp Hope. To date, the Jaycees have subsidized more than 10,000 individuals to camp.

The Night for Hope Gala will be held at 7 p.m. at 701 Whaley, and ticket prices are $55, which includes food, drinks, entertainment and a chance to bid on multiple live and silent auction items. To donate an item or request table sponsorship information, or for answers to general questions, email statepressc2013@gmail.com.
