Bring an Appetite for 5th Annual Viva La Vista

By Helen Clay

Always a destination for arts, entertainment and great food, Columbia’s Congaree Vista will host its fifth annual epicurean event, Viva La Vista, on Saturday, Sept. 29 from noon to 6 p.m. Held in and around the Gervais Street corridor at Lincoln Street, the festival is designed to give the Southeast a taste of the area’s award-winning restaurants with mouth-watering delicacies that are impossible to resist.

Viva La Vista is free and open to the public, providing an open and creative environment for visitors to expand their palates by sampling Southern and international cuisine as well as wine and beer. In addition to great food and entertainment, a 5K will jump-start the day. More than 300 runners participated in last year’s first Doctor’s Care 5K Dash to the Vista. The 2012 race will take place at 10 a.m. before the tasting portion of the festival kicks off. Participants will receive six free tokens for food and beverages and an official race t-shirt.

Music has always been an important part of Viva La Vista, and this year the event will feature even more bands, national touring artists and stages, including Swing 42, Capital City Playboys, Ricky Young, Rival Brothers and Timshell.

Viva La Vista is the Congaree Vista’s signature annual event. Visitors can look forward to another wallet-friendly day of sampling the best food Columbia has to offer. Admission is free; $1 tokens are used to purchase food and beverages. For more details on the event or to register for the road race, visit www.vivalavistasc.com.
