How did your business begin?
For more than 100 years, Lutheran Homes has provided quality, person-centered support to older adults through five retirement communities, Lutheran Hospice and BeWell Home Services. Our latest ministry, BeWell @ Home (BW@H) extends traditional retirement community benefits and services to the comfort of one’s own home.
What is the mission of your business?
Our core mission is to “promote the well-being of older adults.” BW@H is a ‘Continuing Care at Home’ program designed for people who are determined to stay home. In return for a one-time, actuarial-based membership fee and reasonable monthly service fees, members are provided a comprehensive package of services designed to enable them to live at home.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
Lutheran Homes’ longevity, quality reputation, staff expertise, and experience in providing a myriad of services uniquely positions BW@H to expand our care continuum to help older adults successfully age-in-place. Services may include home inspections; emergency response systems; social and educational offerings; homemaking, personal care and transportation services; and home maintenance referrals.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about your business?
It’s affordable! BW@H is an excellent financial tool to help preserve hard-earned assets with the assurance of lifetime care. Depending on the plan selected, fees cover most services required, up to an established average daily limit. There may be out-of-pocket expenses above the monthly fee for select services, social or educational opportunities, etc.
What is the latest trend in your business?
MetLife surveys show 83 percent of retirees do not plan to move from their residence. Across the country, successful, non-profit senior service providers, like Lutheran Homes, are expanding their campus services to the broader community. BeWell @ Home is a premier Continuing Care at Home program for South Carolina.
