Ask the Experts: Home Q&A

Bricker and Beam

Josh Cox

Q: When should I incorporate custom, handmade furniture into my home or office?

A: In short, whenever you’re looking for a statement piece with a story. With more and more mass-produced furniture flooding the market, we find that many people are turning to custom pieces as a way to make their space stand out. A custom statement piece can have a huge positive impact on a space, regardless of the size and type. Whether a live-edge dining table for the new house or a solid walnut conference table for the new office, unique, tailored furniture solutions help elevate any space.

Q: What’s the most important factor in selecting a home?

A: Selecting an ideal home is a very personal process. As a buyer, you must navigate sometimes hundreds of options as you try to balance location with home features. A critical consideration sometimes overlooked is determining the type of lifestyle that best suits you. For families with young children, good schools and neighborhoods with plenty of playmates may be the priority; for young professionals, access to social venues may be key. Devoted pet owners need the perfect backyard. Home ownership is a significant source of satisfaction and quality of life. A talented and experienced realtor can help you find the perfect fit.

Q: What set of gas logs is best for my home?

A: This sounds simple on the surface but there are many factors to consider and getting the right information from the start is important. A chimney inspection and cleaning is always required prior to installation of gas logs. You should check the National Fireplace Institute’s website, www.nficertified.org to find and hire a NFI Certified Gas Specialist when considering buying gas logs.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives

Kenny Kaufman

Q: How can we enhance our lighting system?

A: The latest technology in the LED is color changing bulbs. These RGBW bulbs can usually be retrofitted to your existing fixtures, and will bring the wow factor back to your home. An app on your smartphone makes it easy to control or set up scenes for holidays or special events. If you want to make a splash with your lighting, color changing bulbs may be your answer.

Residential Condensing Hybrid Tankless Water Heater

Superior Plumbing and Gas

Jeff Godby

Q: What is the biggest benefit of a tankless water heater?

A: The cost. While tankless water heaters may cost more up front than traditional water heaters, the lower month-to-month costs offset that price. They also last significantly longer than traditional water heaters, so in the long run a tankless water heater will cost you less money and stay working for a longer time.

Pam Smith

Q: Is the scale of a room a big consideration in the pattern of a wallpaper?

A: A large scale looks great in a room where there is enough wall to show off the beauty of the pattern. Even if it is a small powder room, a large open pattern can be stunning. Rooms that are chopped up, for example a galley kitchen, look nice with a small ground or pattern that has a small scale. It gives color and texture to the space.
