Since starting Archadeck of Central South Carolina 11 years ago, Mike Reu has learned volumes about creating premium decks, sunrooms and porches. Now he is passing his knowledge along to the next two generations, as his son Marshall and grandson Tucker have joined him to help grow the business.
“I am excited about the opportunity to keep the business in the family,” said Mike.
Marshall, a native of Camden and a USC graduate, comes to Archadeck after a successful career in finance, recently having sold a fire protection services business in Raleigh, NC. Tucker, a Lance Corporal in the USMC reserves, graduated in 2012 from Pitt Community College with a degree in business. Together, the three generations of Reus are on track for significant expansion of their business in the Columbia area.
“With the slow economy and depressed housing prices, many people are interested in investing in their current homes rather than moving up to bigger ones. Archadeck designs outdoor living spaces that allow people to take advantage of the nearly year-round good weather we have in South Carolina,” said Marshall.
How have outdoor spaces changed over the years? According to Mike, today the outdoor living space extends far beyond a traditional deck. Today’s homeowners want to create a backyard escape. About a third of the company’s projects these days are decks. The rest include sunrooms, screened porches, pergolas, gazebos, patios and outdoor entertaining areas complete with fire pits, outdoor kitchens and even fireplaces.
In addition to building new structures, Archadeck gets calls to replace older decks, expand and upgrade decks and convert decks to screened porches or sunrooms. The company also offers a phased building program that allows customers to budget for projects in stages.
Since opening in the Columbia area in 2003, Archadeck of Central South Carolina has created more than 500 projects enabling its customers to enjoy their outdoor spaces. This three-generation, family-owned company serves Columbia, Irmo, Lake Murray, Chapin, Lexington, Blythewood, Florence, Camden, Lugoff, Sumter and West Columbia. Archadeck is located on Gregg St. in downtown Columbia.
