How did your business begin?
AllSouth Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1960 as Fort Jackson Federal Credit Union to serve the military and civilian personnel on Fort Jackson. In 2004, we changed our name to AllSouth and began serving anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield, Saluda, Kershaw, Sumter and Calhoun Counties.
What is your business’ biggest challenge?
Much has changed in the financial industry over the past 55 years. Gone are the days of passbooks and manual ledger entries. Now, everything is online or, in many cases, on your cellphone. AllSouth continually strives to maintain a balance between “bricks” and “clicks.” With 23 branches in the Midlands, including six in area Wal-Mart Supercenters that have extended weekday and Saturday hours, a full service facility is just a few minutes away. And, if you’re traveling around our beautiful state or across the country, AllSouth’s mobile app means you take your branch wherever you go.
How does your company give back to the community?
AllSouth participates in various Chamber events and festivals such as Sparkleberry Country Fair, Rock Around the Clock in Winnsboro and the Forest Acres Festival. Employees volunteer time with the USO South Carolina, Sistercare and Reach mentoring program, just to name a few.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about your business?
Many people don’t realize that we’ve grown beyond basic savings and checking accounts to also offer car loans and mortgages. We have a mortgage special going on now that offers 90 days before your first payment on 10 and 15 year conventional mortgages, and 5/5 adjustable rate mortgages. You can even apply for and get approved for your mortgage online 24/7. Get all the details at www.allsouth.org.
