Now that the new year has begun, it’s time to grab your friends and family and hit the trails for the 3rd Annual Palmetto Trail Challenge. This 15-week walking, running or biking contest is designed to get people to live more active and healthy lifestyles while enjoying the great outdoors.
During the challenge, which begins Feb. 7 and ends May 20, teams of two work together to log as many miles of walking, running or biking as they can; they’ll be competing against other teams in the same category. Team miles, accrued by walking, running or biking anywhere, are turned in to the Palmetto Conservation Foundation by 5 p.m. every Friday.
All participants benefit from this healthy competition, but prizes will be awarded to the top teams in each category, so lace up your shoes, hit the trails and pound out those miles.
The Palmetto Trail Challenge is sponsored by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, whose mission is to conserve South Carolina’s natural and cultural resources, preserve its historic landmarks and promote outdoor recreation through trails and greenways. The foundation offers a wide array of outings, new educational programs, outdoor centers and an Outdoor Leadership School to help people become more comfortable and familiar with the natural world that the Palmetto State has to offer.
The challenge is open to participants of all ages. Register for the challenge at www.palmettoconservation.org/PTChallenge.asp.
