Description

It is every teenage gir's dream to go to prom and dress like royalty for a night. But for some South Carolina students, finances prevent those dreams from coming
true. Thanks to the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division and the AKA Sorority, the Cinderella
Project is allowing every South Carolina girl’s dream of dressing like a princess on prom night to become
a reality.

The South Carolina Bar is calling for members of the community to donate gently used formal gowns anddresses, jewelry, shoes, and purses to its annual Cinderella Project. The Cinderella Project began more than ten years ago by the South Carolina Bar and local law firms in an effort to make sure every teenage girl has an opportunity to have a prom dress regardless of her financial status. Once the Project gathers donations for socially and economically disadvantaged high school students, teenage girls from area high schools are invited to attend a boutique held in the spring to “shop” for a dress and other items at no cost. With thousands of dresses to choose from, girls of all shapes and sizes can find the prom dress of their dreams. In 2011, the Midlands project had a record turn out with over 375 girls leaving the event with a prom dress.

Donated dresses should be clean and on hangars.

The 2012 dress donation drop-off locations are:
Richardson Plowden, The Junior League of Columbia
Headquarters, M Boutique, Lexington Town Hall, Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, Chapin Chamber
of Commerce, and the West Metro Chamber of Commerce.
These locations accept donations during business hours Monday through Friday until the deadline for donations on Friday, February 24.

The official shopping day for high school students of the Midlands will be on Saturday, March 3. Shopping day may vary throughout the state.
