• More details
The Carolina Downhome Blues Festival is an award-winning event recognized for featuring legendary blues artists from around the globe. Produced and presented by the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC), this year’s Blues Festival will feature a legendary blues rock band, Savoy Brown with Kim Simmonds. Savoy Brown will headline the Saturday evening performance on the Mainstage in downtown Camden. Savoy Brown, known as “one of the world’s longest, continuously running blues/rock bands in the world today” has made Camden their solo stop of the Southeast this fall. Legendary…a blues/rock institution…true innovators. These are just a few of the ways Savoy Brown has been described over the past forty years by music critics and fans.
One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the UK blues boom of the 1960’s movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever. In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970’s. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today.
Also planned will be a performance from Geoff Muldaur and Jim Kweskin Duo, a popular acoustic team playing jug band favorites, old time jazz tunes, and classic country blues. This duo is like a conversation between friends with the focus on music and on fun. They pick guitar and sing, and have also been known to perform on comb, kazoo, washboard, and jug. More artists and a full schedule will be announced soon.
