Sitting down with Jean Bruton and Margaret Bruton, owners (803) 254-0772, nonesuchltd.com
How did your business begin?
In 1978, after I graduated from USC, my mother, Margaret Davis, asked me if I would like to open an antique and gift shop with her. I was thrilled with the opportunity to work, travel and learn from my mother. She has impeccable taste, great style and an astute business mind. We opened non(e)such in 1978 and after three years we moved to our present location on Devine Street. I have been blessed to work with my mother and now with my talented daughter, Margaret Bruton.
What is the mission of your business?
The mission of non(e)such is to continue to offer our customers the finest in jewelry, gifts, linens, art and antiques along with the most complete bridal registry in the state. Excellent customer service is very important to us and we strive to give the best that we can.
What do you like best about your line of work?
What we like best about our work is all of the wonderful people we’ve met over the years including customers, brides, vendors and the fabulous ladies we work with.
What are the latest developments/innovations in your field?
Like many other businesses, the most revolutionary development in the retail field is the rise of the Internet and e-commerce. Thanks to the third generation owner, Margaret, non(e)such now derives a growing percentage of its sales through its website. In fact, non(e)such is launching a new and improved website which will be up and running by December. Also, with the use of Facebook and Instagram, we are able to reach out to our followers and keep them apprised of the latest arrivals or events.
