When did your business begin?
Created in 1982, Palmetto Tile has always prided itself on being the best; being voted Best of Columbia two years in a row has solidified this.
What is the mission of your business?
With three locations in Columbia, North Charleston, and Johns Island for our Kiawah clients, our mission is for our staff to be able to offer a satisfying design experience for clients throughout South Carolina.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
As president, I realized early on that a business is only as good as its staff. In order to cultivate a culture of being more than just another “tile store,” I knew that I would need not only exceptional products, but also showroom staff who are a cut above. While Palmetto Tile imports the finest products from Italy and Spain, I have worked diligently over the years to employ showroom staff with extensive design backgrounds, many with design degrees. This ensures that a certain level of class and sophistication will be brought to every project.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about your business?
By eliminating commissions, our designers are free to focus on the beauty of the space rather than “upselling” the client on unnecessary finishes; this approach also allows the designer as well as the client to do what is right for the space. This no pressure approach has led to long-term relationships with many of South Carolina’s premier builders, remodelers, and interior designers. Word of mouth has been Palmetto Tile’s best source of advertising.
